When a speaker or writer expresses different concepts verbally, he or she will surely have special intentions to achieve. He or she will basically make use of different styles of speech that suit his or her intentions. One of these styles is mockery (al-Tahakkom and al-Estehza) which the writer tries to follow the purposes of punishment, contempt, humiliation… through it. This paper seeks to examine the rhetorical purposes of this style of speech in Holy Quran based on the authentic sources of the Qur'an and some literary and rhetorical texts. For this reason, after extracting the Holy verses concerning this method of speech, with referring to the rhetorical and literary commentary books, we have reviewed the rhetorical purposes of mockery. The results indicate that this method has been used in the holy Qur'an many times, and God by using this method have followed special goals such as: Contempt, Incapacitation and reprimand of the audience.
