Abstract

Based on Halliday's Functional Model of Language, events and human thoughts can be represented at three ideational, inter-personal and textual levels. The present study aimed at a descriptive-analytical analysis of paragraphs of the ayahs of Surah Ta-Ha from the perspective of the principles of systemic-functional grammar. In more than eighty ayahs of Surah Ta-Ha, important parts of the story of Prophet Musa (AH) is explained in order to serve as sympathy and condolence for the Prophet Mohammad and the believers in Mecca, who were pressed by enemies at that time. The author intends to examine the aforementioned theoretical model and its applicability in the field of Qur'anic data and the analysis of different layers of meaning. The results indicate that at ideational level Surah Ta-Ha has benefited from mental and verbal processes besides the material one. The most frequent processes relate to material verbs that are in agreement with the mood of this surah.
